“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.†John 17:3
Last week I was running errands in a nearby town and on my way out the door I grabbed my journal and dropped it into my bag.
In the middle of my busy day I made a bit of space. I walked into an old church building and found myself deeply moved by the stained glass windows near the altar.
These were the inscriptions:
“She is not dead, but sleepeth.â€
“Thy brother shall rise again.â€
“Young man I say unto thee ariseâ€
“I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me
though he were dead, yet shall he live.â€
“So he bringeth them unto the haven where they would be.â€
“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.”
Here is a tiny piece of what I wrote in my journal:
It seems you speak always and I must simply be quiet enough to listen. I wandered into this church today and these windows whispered to me…You are the resurrection and the life. To abide with you is to abide in life.
Keep me abiding…
